PHUKET TRAVEL DIARIES: Breakfast, Sala-style

Breakfast at Sala Restaurant

Day 2: We woke up to another amazing, sunny day (despite the forecast of clouds and rainshowers..Yay!) and headed off to breakfast at Sala Restaurant. We weren’t expecting much because it was not buffet, but  were we in for a surprise! Breakfast, Sala-style, was a yummy feast! Check out the drool-worthy food pics after the jump!

"donut hole" type of sweets served at Sala Phuket at the beginning of breakfast

We were served fresh orange juice & sweet sugar powder-dusted treats with strawberry jam while we were deciding on what to order. (They remind me of bigger donut holes)

The scroll

See that scroll behind the treats? I love that they have this on our tables every morning. It has new Thai words for the day, the different fabulous activities for the day and some interesting info on Thailand or it’s culture. That day there was cocktail making classes among other things. Check out the contents of the scroll (right).

CHARCUTERI PLATTER Sala breakfast - Phuket Thailand

I had the CHARCUTERI PLATTER (sliced salami, cured ham, air dried beef, local vegetables, Edam, Camembert and herb cream cheese with whole grain bread)

Excellent cold cuts, proper streaky bacon and yummy sausages (that aren’t very expensive) are not very common in Jakarta. What a treat for us!

Sala breakfast

Hubby had the SALA BREAKFAST (Two eggs/omelet any style served with house made pork sausage, bacon, grilled herb tomato, daily potato and your choice of wheat or white toast...

Sala breakfast

...choice of belgium crispy wffle or feather light, restoed over night pancakes topped with Vanilla whipped cream and local mango)

I helped the hubby with his pancakes. Perfect dessert!

French press coffee Sala breakfast - Phuket Thailand

French press coffee

Did you know?

French press coffee should only steep for 2-4 mins (depending on the size of the press) then should be poured immediately. Coffee that stays in the press for 20 minutes is considered spoiled.

We realized belatedly that we forgot to check out the cereals (no store-bought cereals here, mind you) and the fruit buffet.

BREAKFAST DAY 3

We decided to order smaller portioned dishes (relative to yesterdays breakfast bonanza!)  so we could try the cereals and fruits.

NEW ORLEANS for Sala breakfast - Phuket Thailand

NEW ORLEANS (Local blue swimmer crab meat on toasted croissant topped with poached egg, Hollandaise and house blend Cajun spice) Where's the sauce?

STEAK & EGGS Sala breakfast - Phuket Thailand

STEAK & EGGS (Char-grilled Australian Angus beef sirloin topped with a fried egg, sautéed mushrooms served with grilled herb tomato, daily potato...

Wheat bread and whipped butter

... and your choice of wheat or white toast) We got wheat, of course, and that butter was divine! (whipped if I'm not mistaken?)

I got my Hollandaise sauce on the side because I wasn’t sure I would like it.

You can tell I liked it, can you? =D

Almond vanilla granolla Sala breakfast-Phuket Thailand

ALMOND VANILLA GRANOLA. This was really good, but hubby didn't realize he got a jar of sour cream instead of fresh milk, so that sorta spoiled it for us. So make sure you pick up the right jar when you visit Sala! ;D

MAPLE PEANUT RAISIN GRANOLA. Yes much better!

BRAVE LITTLE BIRD

During breakfast we heard this little bird chirping and twittering all over the place. How lovely! Then it finally approached our table and started begging for food! My, this was one brave..AND loud little bird!  it would ruffle up its feathers and puff up until you threw a piece of bread! Then it would come back for more and do the same thing. Once the bird got it’s fill, it would get one last piece of bread and bring it to her nest. The bird would go very near the different tables every morning. How cute is that? It reminded us of our Diplo-dog. LOL.

I’ve a video of the brave lil’ bird in action, but I’m still figuring out how to upload it in a smaller file format on YouTube. It’s in HD you see.
