At the end of the Hajj (annual pilgrimage to Mecca), Muslims throughout the world celebrate the holiday of Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice). In 2010, Eid al-Adha will begin on November 16th, and will last for three days.Eid al-Adha (Arabic: عيد الأضحى ‘Īdu l-’Aḍḥā) or “Festival of Sacrifice” or “Greater Eid” is an important religious holiday celebrated byMuslims worldwide to commemorate the willingness of Abraham (Ibrahim) to sacrifice his son Ishmael (Isma’il) as an act of obedience to God, before God intervened to provide him with a ram to sacrifice instead. It is celebrated during the end of the Hajj or annual pilgrimage to Mecca, and is observed by Muslims whether one is on pilgrimage or not.
In commemoration of Abraham’s faith, sheep, goats and camels are offered to God, and the meat is divided into three parts to be distributed to others. The family retains one-third of the share, another third is given to relatives, friends and neighbors, and the other third is given to the poor & needy.

Remember this?!? I loved Chocomallows (or chocolate covered marshmallow biscuits) as a child!. It’s one of my favorites, and whenever I eat it again, childhood memories of playing and carefree days start flooding back. I still feel the same excitement peeling off the foil to reveal yummy chocolate covered pillows of marshmallow… sigh!
I was inspired by a toasted marshmallow cupcake done by Erica Paredes, to do a cupcake version of Chocomallows! Here are some pictures to whet your appetite. The dark chocolate is perfect with the sweet toasted marshmallows in the center. The toasted bits also give a bit of crunch to the bite! Yummmm…. Brings me back to those good ol’ days!

Resto Review: Warung Pasta Kemang
Traditionally warung’s sell Indonesian food, but these days more modern versions are all over the place, such as Pasta Warung in Kemang. It is small but has an air-conditioned area with 2 levels and an outdoor area. The entire place is smoking area so I don’t recommend it if you are pregnant.

Happy Eid aI-Adha Everyone!

Strangely enough tonight is my first time to hear the prayers from the mosque nearby. I usually don’t hear or notice it. So either I’ve just gotten used to the sound and tune it out or they are in full force tonight for the Eid aI-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice) which starts today, though the official non-working holiday is tomorrow.
Since yesterday we’ve been seeing goats and cows in trucks being delivered or in pens awaiting their sacrifice. Aawwww…. I know it’s strange for me to say that I feel bad for the poor animals because in reality I eat beef, chicken, etc. everyday… but it’s because we never see the process the animals go through before they get to our table and that’s why my mind is able to distance itself from the gruesome facts.
Tomorrow many animals will be sacrificed, but also many poor people will receive the blessings of food. Such is the circle of life… (sounds cliché I know!) so HAPPY EID-AL-ADHA OR EID MUBARAK to all my muslim friends out there! Enjoy good food and the good company of family and friends!

Finally got to watch the movie last night and I loved it! Not necessarily for the production value, but because it’s informative and let’s us peek behind the curtains into the lives of people who have changed the way we live our lives FOREVER. (Though I am not saying production wasn’t good – I just didn’t notice it much because I was too caught up by the story.
I admit that ever since moving out of the country, I’ve been an absolute Facebook fiend. It has prevented me from feeling lonely in a new country, kept me in touch with friends back home and got me back in touch withe friends all over the world. In fact I like to say that now I am much more in touch with some of my friends in Manila than I was when I was actually living there! Crazy right?
But it’s true because when I was in Manila I was always working too much. And that was my focus. But now I am a housewife + Facebook and I am all hooked up! LOL.
The movie has led me to more questions though. Why di Mark Z. reduce the shares of his partner? Why does Sean have the same share after the drug bust? And most importantly are the “Winklevi“ really as good-looking as Armie Hammer? (doesn’t he remind you of a totally hotter young Brendan Fraser?!?) I’ve had a crush on him since I laid eyes on him on Gossip Girl in 2009.
The first two questions make me wanna read The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich, which was the basis for the movie. Interesting to note that Eduardo Saverin was a consultant for Mezrich’s story. But the last question can be answered by a simple Google search! I’ll let you be the judge!

The drool-worthy, Armie Hammer. He was supposed to play Bruce Wayne in the cancelled movie Justice League - too bad. He would have been and awesome Bruce Wayne - chiseled jaws and all! =P

I would love to hear your thoughts on the movie! And your two cents on my questions above or any questions of your own! =)
