BOOK ❤ Napoleon’s Privates
This book is not for the faint-hearted or conservative types. Often times history is boring mostly because we get the sanitized version. This is why I loved having Ambeth Ocampo as my history teacher in college because he wanted us to question the so-called facts, not just to memorize it but analyze how and why (i.e. why are the Katipuneros always depicted as wearing red pants? If that was what they were truly wearing during the rebellion then they would be moving targets for the enemy!)
Read MoreBOOK ❤ The Happiness Project
I usually write about book when I finish reading them, but I’m so excited about The Happiness Project that I wanna write about it now. As of the date of writing this post I just finished Chapter 3: March “Aim Higher” which is related to Work. But I’ve had so many “AHA” moments already that I wanna read it slower so I can absorb the practical nuggets of wisdom.
Read MoreBAKING IN THE OVEN ♨ Mad Hungry for Apple Crisps
As promised, here’s the recipe for the apple crisp that was baking in the oven last weekend! I got this recipe from this AMAZING BOOK called MAD Hungry: Feeding Men & Boys. I first had this faux apple pie at my cousin’s home – his wife Jackie is an amazing cook! I also had rice crispy bars and banana bread there and I was asking her for the recipe. She said she got all the recipes from ONE book! Whoa. I had to have this book. It was too heavy for me to bring to Jakarta but when I looked around in the English bookstores here (yes not all bookstores have English books) I couldn’t find it! GASP!
Read MoreFun Read ✌ ASOLUT BOOK.
If you are like me (loves marketing/advertising and has been fascinated with the ABSOLUT Vodka print ads most of my life) then you will love this book. Not only is it a compilation of almost all ABSOLUT ads (if not all) that were ever released in print but it also tells the journey of a brand from being an unknown vodka (in the past Russian Vodkas ruled) to the most famous vodka in the world! And what a story it is!
Read MoreCHIC READS: Bringing Home the Birkin ♕ Summer at Tiffany
With summer coming up (in the Philippines anyway), I imagine many of you are looking forward to days lounging on a beach bed, cool drink in hand and reading a good book. These are my recommendations for fun and chic light summer reading. Both happen to be memoirs, of ordinary people who had extraordinary experiences…
STEAL ✄ DEAL: Sale at Aksara Bookstore!
Today I dropped by Aksara for some therapy (checking out is extremely soothing for me – like going around the supermarket) only to find out that all their books are on SALE.
Read MoreBook: 101 Things I learned in Culinary School
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to cook but doesn’t have the time or money to go to culinary schoool. It’s basically the 101 most important concepts/ideas/processes that the authors learned in Culinary school. The nuggets of wisdom are explained in such a clear concise manner with simple illustrations so they are easy to understand and remember.
Read MoreThoughts & favorite quotes from Eat Pray Love
It took me a long time to finish this book. In fact I stopped reading it while I was halfway through Book 1/Italy/”Say It Like You Eat It” because for some reason it just didn’t call to me. Or perhaps it was too difficult to read because I myself was gaining all that weight but didn’t have the fabulous excuse of an Italian adventure, but rather just the lousy excuse of enjoying being a couch potato after being such a “Type A” personality all my life. Or her agony/suffering/darkness in the beginning may have reminded me of those dark years of my life which, though I have surpassed and has made me into the person I am today, still squeezes my heart in pain & knocks the air out of me whenever I remember how it felt to be in that darkness. But basically I read this book very slow because all throughout I also needed to reflect on my own existential crises.
What made me continue?

Nightlight a parody & Press Cafe – Rockwell
I was passing time at Fully Booked, Powerplant Mall before meeting up for drinks with a friend at The Fort, Taguig. A book caught my eye: “Nightlight, A Parody.” It is a “Twilight” parody published by The Harvard Lampoon. I purchased the book and settled in the adjacent Press Cafe.
