It’s another GOLD Christmas!
Sorry guys this is a long overdue post. Last year was our first time we spend Christmas in Jakarta and I had to buy more decor for the Christmas dinner we were hosting. From my earlier posts, you can tell I love gold so to keep with the theme of my home (white, natural wood with gold and capiz accents) I decided it would be a GOLD Christmas in our DiploHome – or until I change my mind anyway. =P So this year I only had to make a few improvements on last year’s decor. Check out what I added after the jump!

My first TDW (The Diplomatic Wife) original artwork is finally hanging over our bed. I love waking up and seeing it above my head first thing in the morning. It’s simple, gold and white and is SO totally me! It adds to the warmth of our off white room, and in the morning it magnifies the feeling of the sun shining down on me through our massive bedroom windows! How I ended up doing it after the jump!

On my recent trip to Bali, I also finally bought something from the Shell Museum. I always pass by it on every trip to Bali but never bought anything yet. What holds me back? The capiz products I get from Tesoros and Kultura (SM Makat) in the Philippines are cheaper and sturdier in quality, but since I wont be going back to the Philippines till November this will have to do. Whenever I buy capiz in the Philippines, I must pack it well and also pay for excess luggage weight. So I bit the bullet and bought a few heavy pieces (in the hopes that it will last longer). Pictures after the jump!

DIPLO HOME ♖ Flower power!
I’m a bit annoyed because I realized one of my favorite posts was not moved from my old blog to the new one when I (painfully) migrated my blog. So here I am reposting it manually. This was originally posted Feb 5, 2011. Flowers after the jump!

I’ve been a bit worried about my living area because I noticed that all the elements are rectangular or square. One thing I learned from my interior designers K+M while decorating our flat in Manila is that I can’t have too many square/rectangular elements in an area. I have to balance it out with round elements. Click here to see how we balanced out our Manila dining room (which was full of straight lines) with a round capiz drop lamp.

I love, love, love Chic Mart. I discovered it because I was looking for a bamboo ladder (to use for placing extra towels in our bathrooms) and our friends had the exact one I was looking for. They said they got it in Chic Mart ….and voila! I got my ladders! At super great prices by the way.
Our new capiz floor lamp by daylight
This is in connection to my previous post regarding my bargain finds in the IndoCrafts Fair – my bestfriend wanted to see the Capiz floor lamp by daylight. Here are the pics sweety!

TD has been bugging me to order more furniture. However being the anal obsessive compulsive person that I am, I want to design furniture that is double/triple purpose with a lot of storage to maximize our small apartment. This requires a lot of research, imagination and some technical knowledge (i.e. kinds of hinges to use, thickness of the wood to support X amount of Kilos, structural integrity of the design, etc.)

Ask any of my friends and they will confirm that I am totally a bargain shopper. In Manila it is my family’s past time (the women anyway) to look for great quality at the best possible price. And we are willing to go far and wide (and a whole lot of effort) to do this. Nothing beats the thrill of haggling (which I incidentally discovered during my first trip to Boracay).
