DIPLO TUMMY ♨ David Rocco’s Lazy Man’s Lasagna
Hi guys! I can’t believe it’s the holiday season again! I’ve been so utterly busy with making pretty accessories for my DiploShop, cooking, baking and going on my usual shopping rounds to take advantage of the end of season sales to get what I need and having my perpetual online garage sale. (I am a struggling minimalist – but obviously losing that battle so far hehe!) Anyway I just wanna share with you that I finally made lasagna for the first time! And IMHO it was pretty yummy for a first try! It helps to have a good authentic recipe to begin with, even if I kinda winged it on the Bolognese sauce. Read on…

I was inspired by an instagram photo of @janablanco of these bacon pancakes so today I made some using my cheat/treat-day Oscar Meyer bacon They cost an arm and a leg in Jakarta, but definitely worth it for an occasional weekend treat, because the local bacon tastes funny to me. See how simple it is to make after the jump!

Just wanna share the lovely lunch we had. This was done by my helper who I’ve been training on the art of mise en place and how to follow a recipe book. I am soooo proud of her! She didn’t know how too cook before coming to Jakarta because she is originally a cleaning and laundry lady but now she can do many of the dishes I’ve taught her and now bakes too! =)

TD and I love eating gyoza. And I’ve always wanted to learn how to make it, but never had the guts to try it. I was at my Thai friend S’ for dinner and she served us these wonderfully yummy fried wanton. When I asked her how she made it, it sounded so simple that I decided I would use the same filling but cook it gyoza style. I found this recipe on the net from the blog, Drool Factor, (awesome pictures!) and combined my friends ingredients to Drool Factor‘s recipe. So here it is!

When I woke up this morning, TD was outside the room. I automatically assumed that he was working in the study so I called to him to ask for a good morning hug. It took him awhile to come in, and when he did he was in a hurry because apparently he was cooking brunch! What a great thing to wake up to! And I’m amazed – it’s the SECOND time he has ever cooked for me, both times within a week! Wow. Check out the pics below for some yummy “dude food” – as my friend @MDJSuperstar likes to call it!

I woke up yesterday with my body feeling like it was hit by a truck again, but unlike the day before I could not get up! I have fallen sick yet again. (Curse this sickly body of mine!) I was bemoaning to my inability to finally cook for hubby the Bolognese recipe I learned from cooking class at The Ritz Carlton.
He said no problem he would take care of it! And this is the fantastic result:

Thanks to getting sick, I’ve lost a little weight (silver lining!) and it’s given me encouragement and strengthened my resolve to keep up the fight against the bulge!
Last night I had clear beef and noodle soup, and salad for dinner. I skipped the chicken curry which we prepared so as not to starve our dinner guests. I was guilty of indulging in some of the freshly baked banana bread. (How could I not?!) But I felt good knowing I sacrificed the main course for it. (Under normal circumstances I would have had soup, salad, main course AND dessert!) YEY to mini victories!

Noticed that our Portobello Mushrooms needed to be cooked asap this morning. So I decided to finally try the Mushroom and Cream Sauce recipe that I learned in the Italian vs Pastry Cooking Class and treat the hubby to a non-salad dinner tonight. (We try to have soup/half a sandwich & salad every dinner.)

Even though hubby doesn't usually like lemon-y dressings, he loves this because the dressing compliments the saltiness of the Feta perfectly. Recipe to follow!
