Shrimp Scampi a la Mad Hungry

Shrimp Scampi a la Mad Hungry

Just wanna share the lovely lunch we had. This was done by my helper who I’ve been training on the art of mise en place and how to follow a recipe book. I am soooo proud of her! She didn’t know how too cook before  coming to Jakarta because she is originally a cleaning and laundry lady but now she can do many of the dishes I’ve taught her and now bakes too! =)

Book: 101 Things I learned in Culinary School

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to cook but doesn’t have the time or money to go to culinary schoool. It’s basically the 101 most important concepts/ideas/processes that the authors learned in Culinary school.  The nuggets of wisdom are explained in such a clear concise manner with simple illustrations so they are easy to understand and remember.

YEY I made Pork Gyoza!

YEY I made Pork Gyoza!

TD and I love eating gyoza. And I’ve always wanted to learn how to make it, but never had the guts to try it. I was at my Thai friend S’ for dinner and she served us these wonderfully yummy fried wanton. When I asked her how she made it, it sounded so simple that I decided I would use the same filling but cook it gyoza style. I found this recipe on the net  from the blog, Drool Factor, (awesome pictures!) and combined my friends ingredients to Drool Factor‘s recipe. So here it is!

Hubby cooked for me TWICE in one week! Gasp!

Hubby cooked for me TWICE in one week! Gasp!

When I woke up this morning, TD was outside the room. I automatically assumed that he was working in the study so I called to him to ask for a good morning hug. It took him awhile to come in, and when he did he was in a hurry because apparently he was cooking brunch! What a great thing to wake up to! And I’m amazed – it’s the SECOND time he has ever cooked for me, both times within a week! Wow. Check out the pics below for some yummy “dude food” – as my friend @MDJSuperstar likes to call it!

First time ever: Hubby cooked for me!

First time ever: Hubby cooked for me!

I woke up yesterday with my body feeling like it  was hit by a truck again, but unlike the day before I could not get up! I have fallen sick yet again. (Curse this sickly body of mine!) I was bemoaning to my inability to finally cook for hubby the Bolognese recipe I learned from cooking class at The Ritz Carlton.

He said no problem he would take care of it! And this is the fantastic result:

Grilled chicken and corn soup

Grilled chicken and corn soup

Thanks to getting sick, I’ve lost a little weight (silver lining!) and it’s given me encouragement and strengthened my resolve to keep up the fight against the bulge!

Last night I had clear beef and noodle soup, and salad for dinner. I skipped the chicken curry which we prepared so as not to starve our dinner guests. I was guilty of indulging in some of the freshly baked banana bread. (How could I not?!) But I felt good knowing I sacrificed the main course for it. (Under normal circumstances I would have had soup, salad, main course AND dessert!) YEY to mini victories!

Mushroom & Cream Sauce Rigatoni with Truffle Oil + Strawberries & Cream

Noticed that our Portobello Mushrooms needed to be cooked asap this morning. So I decided to finally try the Mushroom and Cream Sauce recipe that I learned in the Italian vs Pastry Cooking Class and treat the hubby to a non-salad dinner tonight. (We try to have soup/half a sandwich & salad every dinner.)

JW Marriott Mooncake Cooking Class

I was pleasantly surprised to find an invitation to a Mooncake cooking class and dinner from the nice people at JW Marriott Jakarta (Kuningan) last week. It’s that time of the year again – the Mid-Autumn Festival or Mooncake time! Did the JW Marriot manage make a mooncake convert out of me?
