MYANMAR TRAVEL DIARIES ✈ Flying domestic on AirBagan
Before I write more about Bagan, I want to tell you about our flight there. We took AirBagan. We were departing to Bagan so early it was still dark out when we checked-out. We requested for breakfast to be packed for us and the hotel gave us hardboiled eggs, bread and a banana – it wasn’t much but at least we had something in our bellies. Took some pictures of the domestic terminal and the airplane from AirBagan for anyone planning to travel to Myanmar.
YANGON TRAVEL DIARIES ✈ Shwedagon Pagoda
The highlight of our stay in Yangon was the Shwedagon Pagoda. It was by pure luck that we ended up there late in the afternoon, and I highly recommend going there before sunset to anyone planning to go. You’ll see why in the pictures after the jump. Be warned, it’s a photo binge!

Hi folks! Sorry I have been super busy lately! Today I wanna share with you some photos of Nga Htat Gyi Pagoda in Yangon which has a giant sitting Buddha. Unlike the pagoda with the Reclining Buddha you need to pay to get in. It’s looking a bit gloomy but the carvings are breath-taking. I was also impressed to find out how old they are.

After our walk at Inya Lake, we were brought by our driver to a famous store for Jade and other gems like Sapphire and Rubies, called MK Gems. It was an eye opening experience to the precious stones that Myanmar had to offer!

After breakfast & bathroom break we headed out to Inya Lake to walk off our greasy breakfast calories. While in Myanmar I recommend scheduling bathroom breaks in clean toilets – you can ask your travel agent about this – especially if you are traveling with children or older people. We made sure we didn’t have to go whenever we were in a temple (I don’t recommend it!). Some pictures of Inya Lake after the jump.

Another good place to eat in Yangon is the Golden Duck Restaurant. It was the perfect place to have dinner (the ambiance is nice at night especially with the Shwaydegon glowing in the background). Some pictures of the place, what we ordered and the menu after the jump.

The first temple we visited in Yangon is the Chaukhtatgyi Temple wherein lies a giant reclining Buddha. I had no idea on the itinerary for most of the trip because TD prepared everything with the travel agent. So I was just there to be surprised… =P

Before leaving TD did some research on the restaurant to eat in in Yangon and Myanmar so he had a shortlist of options with their addresses with him. The way we decided was to ask our driver which restaurant was the most convenient to go to knowing our itinerary. On the night we arrived we only had time for dinner after the airport transfer. And Sabia @DMZ Thai Restaurant was quite near the hotel.

We booked our hotels to Myanmar about a month ahead. Because of these our choices were limited. We got whatever we could. When we arrived in Yangon we stayed in Yuzana Hotel in Yangon which was quite old and not so clean. But the thing that made it all worth while was that it over-looked the most magnificent landmark of Yangon, the Shwaydegon Pagoda.
