RESTO RAVE ❤ Anke Restaurant Jakarta

RESTO RAVE ❤ Anke Restaurant Jakarta

TD and I like to fancy ourselves as pork tourists in Indonesia. Pork in restaurants in Jakarta (predominantly Muslim) is nowhere as common as in Manila. So wherever we go, we are always on the look out for pork. Recently we realized that there are many hidden gems in the city, but with traffic and all, we aren’t really willing to go to a place unless it is personally recommended by friends. Our friend Sunny, who seems to know many of these places, invited us to a Chinese restaurant that serves pork. Usually TD and I don’t go beyond Plaza Indonesia which is in central Jakarta, much less go up north. But we pork tourists are willing to travel a little further for some cheap yummy pork. =P

JAKARTA BUFFETS ❤ Birthday Chinese Buffet at Table 8 Mulia

TD has been meaning to take me to Table 8 of Hotel Mulia. My birthday last month was the perfect opportunity to try out the buffet of this decadent Chinese restaurant. Tons of photos of the delicious food and the gorgeous chinoiserie-themed interiors after the jump!

RESTO RAVE ❤ Fook me? Fook Yew!

My husband and I love Ismaya Restaurants so we were excited to find out about the soft opening of FOOK YEW Restaurant in Gandaria City Mall. Ismaya Group Restaurants are consistent: the food is good, the ambiance is amazing, there is bound to be english speaking staff and the interiors are always quirky and witty (LOVE the funny Chinese fortune cookie-style “wisdom” on the walls!). Pictures of my Fook Yew dinner with TD on their 3 day of operations.

YANGON TRAVEL DIARIES ✈ Golden Duck Kan Taw Min Restaurant

Another good place to eat in Yangon is the Golden Duck Restaurant. It was the perfect place to have dinner (the ambiance is nice at night especially with the Shwaydegon glowing in the background). Some pictures of the place, what we ordered and the menu after the jump.

RESTO RAVE ❤ Pork heaven at Paradise Dynasty Legend of Xiao Long Bao

RESTO RAVE ❤ Pork heaven at Paradise Dynasty Legend of Xiao Long Bao

After the lovely dinner we had at Asian Fashion Law’s the night before (future post on the yummy home-cooked meal!) wherein we were talking about how Filipinos in Jakarta are so crazy about pork that the mere whisper of pork gets us all hot and bothered. Haha! It was no surprise that the next day TD and I were definitely craving for… you guessed it… PORK! So TD did some research and found that there was a resto that served pork in the mall we were going to, Plaza Senayan. Pictures of what we had after the jump!

RESTO RAVE ❤ Pork-fix at May Star Chinese Restaurant

RESTO RAVE ❤ Pork-fix at May Star Chinese Restaurant

TD heard about this restaurant because it’s one of the few restaurants in our side of town that serves pork. Pork is more common in the Northern part of Jakarta because there are a lot of Chinese Indonesians that live up there. As you know Indonesians are predominantly Muslim so we’ve missed pork during our stay here. It’s always a big deal for us Pinoys to find a pork-serving resto!

RESTO RAVE ❤ Jun Njan Seafood Restaurant

RESTO RAVE ❤ Jun Njan Seafood Restaurant

When college friends came to visit, I relied on our trusty “local” tour guide to pick our resto. E, who has been our saving grace as Jakarta expats, has lived most of his life in Indonesia. So much so that if he didn’t tell you he was Pinoy, you would assume that he was a Chinese Indonesian. He suggested Jun Njan (pronounced as Jun Nyan) for fresh seafood cooked chinese style. It’s a very casual resto and it’s cheap! Perfect! Photos after the jump.

JAKARTA BUFFETS ❤ Sunday Brunch Pearl Chinese Restaurant

JAKARTA BUFFETS ❤ Sunday Brunch Pearl Chinese Restaurant

Happy weekend everyone! It’s a very busy weekend for us. Brunch at Koi (again), shopping, Jakarta Kulinary festival, then tennis and dinner tonight with some wedding gift wrapping (hands don’t fail me now!) – just for today! And tomorrow we are attending a wedding for the very first time. It’s going to be the second Muslim wedding ceremony I’ve ever attended (the first when I was like 10 years old) so I am excited to see their customs and traditions here. We’ve been asked to come in our national dress so that’s a production in itself!

A grand experience at The Grand Duck King

A grand experience at The Grand Duck King

After a year of avoiding it, I finally had to go to Duck King. Everyone’s been raving about it and our good friend UE in the Philippines has been asking us to bring him home Duck King forpasalubong (a present usually given by one arriving from a trip) every time we come home.

RESTO RAVE ❤ Crystal Jade – Grand Indonesia basement [CLOSED]

I was so happy with our dinner at Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao Exquisite in Grand Indonesia Mall last night, that I’m not going to waste any time before posting about it! I think this is also perfect timing because  they just opened their first branch in Manila last September and apparently the lines are horrible. But still many of my friends in Manila are excited to try it despite the long wait for a table! (Hello @jenncanada and @ria_de_janeiro!)

Breaking fast at Din Tai Fung

Breaking fast at Din Tai Fung

To catch up with our friends K & D we decided to join them for “breakfast.” (It’s Ramadan time again.) Since we’ve been dying to try Din Tai Fung for a while we suggested the resto and made reservations. Been hearing such great things about it (“Best Xiao Long Bao EVER” to quote my friend) and reading about it in Pattie’s blog sealed the deal! After finding out that their HK branch was awarded 1 Michelin star (2010) we were full of expectations. Did Din Tai Fung measure up?
