Azkals Team Building at Plantation Bay Cebu
It’s been a while since I did a post on the Azkals and I saw these really fun pics of the Azkals during their team building in Cebu. I thought today would be a great day to post them, because even if I didn’t make it to Sri Lanka to watch their game last week (I was supposed to time my visit with my best friend there) nor can I watch tomorrow’s home game live, TD and I are totally thinking of them and hoping they win and move on to the next round! So here are some of the pics in no particular order, with permission from Ace Bright, for your enjoyment. =)

How to get tickets to the Azkals game in Bacolod
Just wanted to share this even if I myself can’t watch the AFC game against Mongolia on February 09, 2011 (7pm) in Panaad Stadium, Bacolod. So excited for everyone in the Philippines who are going to be able to watch it!

Well, it helped us survive the cold weather in Vietnam that night! Haha! Thanks to our Managers (Boss Dan, Sir Frank and Richard) for the wonderful idea! Watched the football game live! Philippines vs. Indonesia – Suzuki Cup
We watched the game live at the Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta! And what an experience! It was my 2nd time to watch a football game in that stadium, and the first time we said we should see a game when the Indonesian team is playing – just for the experience! (They take football very seriously here – it’s like an Ateneo La Salle game twentyfold – or maybe fiftyfold!) At that time, we were not thinking about the Philippines getting into the Semi-finals of the Suzuki Cup yet. Little did we know that they would and our first time to watch a game with Indonesia is against the Philippines!

"Panaad Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Bacolod City, Philippines. It was used for the football matches at the 2005 Southeast Asian Games. The stadium has 15,500 seats, but holds 20,000 people with standing areas."
Let me first say that I am not expert, and I don’t have any first hand information and this is just my humble opinion, thoughts and impression based on the information from this article. (Again this is not in any official capacity and merely thoughts and opinions of my own)
According to Martinez “Not too many people can understand or accept that we have no football stadium that is acceptable to the AFF.” The Panaad Stadium (above) is our best one. And it has hosted the SEA Games in the past. Unfortunately it only has a capacity of 20,000 maximum and does not meet the requirements because it has “only 500 luminous lights, way below the FIFA standard of 1,200.”
The second problem has a solution and in fact, the required lights are already being installed. BUT the obvious problem of Martinez is the seating capacity, which cannot be solved as easily. Okay, I can accept that this is our own fault for not supporting and generating interest in football – hence we don’t have the infrastructure for it. (As a leader in Philippine football, shouldn’t Martinez note that he is partly responsible for not having a suitable venue?) BUT WHAT ABOUT HOLDING IT IN A NEUTRAL COUNTRY LIKE SINGAPORE?

Philippine Team wins! Biggest shock EVER in the history of the Suzuki cup!

(Image: mobilemaui.tumblr.com)
…To quote the commentator in last nights football friendly match against the defending champs (AND host country) Vietnam. TD and I were able to watch the amazing game via live internet streaming and we were ecstatic and amazed at the first goal, then just jumped for joy in our study room when the 2nd goal was made.
Congratulations Philippine Team!
They are currently top of Group B (composed of Myanmar, the defending champions Vietnam and the three-time champs Singapore) To emphasize what an amazing victory this was let me quote some of the news articles/posts about it:
Television commentators called it the biggest shock in the tournament’s history.
The Filipino team in the AFF Suzuki Cup stunned the defending champion, also the host country, Vietnam in front of 40,000 Vietnameseaudience held at the My Dinh Stadium, Hanoi.

"Vietnam's soccer team head coach Henrique Calisto (R) refuses to shake hands with Philippines' soccer team head coach Simon McMenemy (C) after their qualifying round match at the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup 2010 soccer tournament at My Dinh stadium in Hanoi December 5, 2010."
