How to get tickets to the Azkals game in Bacolod

Just wanted to share this even if I myself can’t watch the AFC game against Mongolia on February 09, 2011 (7pm) in Panaad Stadium, Bacolod. So excited for everyone in the Philippines who are going to be able to watch it!

Merry Christmas from the Azkals!

Thanks to Richard Pacana for allowing me to use post these über cute pics on my blog! What a fun idea they had for the past holidays… Azkals Merry Christmas pics! And what lovely Christmas elves!

I think that was the first time in Philippine Football or in Asia that Santa hats were used during training in an international tournament! Well, it helped us survive the cold weather in Vietnam that night! Haha! Thanks to our Managers (Boss Dan, Sir Frank and Richard) for the wonderful idea! We really enjoyed our last practice in Vietnam before the Myanmar game.

The irony of it all – Indonesians in Malaysia concerned about not getting tickets

The irony of it all – Indonesians in Malaysia concerned about not getting tickets

My friend forwarded me this article from The Jakarta Post:

Indonesians living and working in Malaysia are concerned they may not be able to spectate at the Asean Football Federation Cup final first leg on Dec. 26 because the host nation may reserve the vast majority of its tickets for Malaysians.

Anshari, a worker from East Java, said he had started looking for a ticket on Tuesday to ensure  he could attend the match.

“I am afraid of not being able to get a ticket,” he said as quoted by Tempointeraktif.com.

Ali Hisyam, an Indonesian student in Kuala Lumpur, said he was also scouring for a ticket.

“I have called the local soccer association, they said the tickets will be available on Thursday,” he said.

Tomorrow….

…I will write about my long but wonderful day yesterday – the pre-game  ”pep rally,” going into the stadium, watching it and the sad but proud defeat. It was bittersweet, because not all of the experiences were positive. But it was nonetheless the experience of a lifetime – because we were at the right time, right place and pinoys are the nicest people!

Today I’m going to rest. I am exhausted from all the excitement and my brain doesn’t wanna work. And I am slightly sad too – it’s the natural crash after such a wonderful high of the Philippine vs Indonesia Suzuki Cup Semi-finals.

Just want to say, have a safe trip home National Football Team of the Philippines and their contingent! And thanks Azkals for the signed Jersey and the nice messages on my photo album of our lunch!

Watched the football game live! Philippines vs. Indonesia – Suzuki Cup

Watched the football game live! Philippines vs. Indonesia – Suzuki Cup

We watched the game live at the Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta! And what an experience! It was my 2nd time to watch a football game in that stadium, and the first time we said we should see a game when the Indonesian team is playing – just for the experience! (They take football very seriously here – it’s like an Ateneo La Salle game twentyfold – or maybe fiftyfold!) At that time, we were not  thinking about the Philippines getting into the Semi-finals of the Suzuki Cup yet. Little did we know that they would and our first time to watch a game with Indonesia is against the Philippines!

Football Hotties – Philippine Edition

Football Hotties – Philippine Edition

To celebrate yesterday’s stunning win against Vietnam AND to promote interest in Philippine football to the ladies, I’m doing a Football Hotties – Philippine edition (remember some of the ones I did before? Football Hotties – Spanish Edition and Football Hotties in general – aside from the many others =p)

* Sidenote: I definitely think we should focus more on football than basketball. Yesterday’s small win just shows you that if we only focus our attention and training of kids in football instead, then the Philippines has a chance to shine, even in the international stage. Many of the players in the team are Filipinos who grew up in other countries wherein the interest and training lay in football. Just take a look at the results! We have a long way to go, but I hope this is a start!

Let’s start with the much-lauded goalie, Neil Ethridge.  (image: Yahoo Sports UK & Ireland)

He's also a Fulham goalkeeper

Azkals/Philippine Men's Football Team: Neil Etheridge, goal keeper

With wonder-goalie, Neil Etheridge

Neil Etheridge, Azkals

My favorite pic of Neil

Then there are the Younghusband brothers. Philip and James Younghusband.

Azkals/Philippine National Team: James Younghusband and Phil Younghusband

With good-looking half Filipino, half British brothers James Younghusband and Phil Younghusband

Show your pearly whites, James!

Here’s another one of James just to even it out, because his brother’s pic is so much bigger =P

Philippine Team wins! Biggest shock EVER in the history of the Suzuki cup!

Philippine Team wins! Biggest shock EVER in the history of the Suzuki cup!

The Azkals, Philippine men's football team

…To quote the commentator in last nights football friendly match against the defending champs (AND host country) Vietnam. TD and I were able to watch the amazing game via live internet streaming and we were ecstatic and amazed at the first goal, then just jumped for joy in our study room when the 2nd goal was made.

Congratulations Philippine Team!

They are currently top of Group B (composed of Myanmar, the defending champions Vietnam and the three-time champs Singapore) To emphasize what an amazing victory this was let me quote some of the news articles/posts about it:

Television commentators called it the biggest shock in the tournament’s history.

- GMA News.TV

The Filipino team in the AFF Suzuki Cup stunned the defending champion, also the host country, Vietnam in front of 40,000 Vietnameseaudience held at the My Dinh Stadium, Hanoi.

- Chika Princess

The Philippines had to qualify to compete in this tournament, then played favorite Singapore to a draw, 1-1, before defeating powerhouse Vietnam before a home crowd. The hosts had demolished Myanmar, 7-1, in its previous match.

GMA News.TV

Vietnam now need to beat Singapore in their final game to guarantee their place in the last four, while the Lions (Singapore) just need a point.

- ESPN Soccernet

Vietnam's soccer team head coach Henrique Calisto (R) refuses to shake hands with Philippines' soccer team head coach Simon McMenemy (C) after their qualifying round match at the AFF Suzuki Cup

"Vietnam's soccer team head coach Henrique Calisto (R) refuses to shake hands with Philippines' soccer team head coach Simon McMenemy (C) after their qualifying round match at the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup 2010 soccer tournament at My Dinh stadium in Hanoi December 5, 2010."

And in celebration of last night’s victory  I am doing a post on Football hotties – Philippine edition tomorrow! Stay tuned!
